Brittany Murphy's final movie, shot in Eugene, premieres at local theater

EUGENE, Ore. - Before her death in 2009, Brittany Murphy appeared in one last film, shot in Eugene.

The movie premieres April 4 in Eugene, followed April 11 in Portland and April 18 in Seattle.

The thriller "Something Wicked" is about a string of odd events that happen after a couple gets married and her parents die.

The film stars Shantel VanSanten, Brittany Murphy, Julian Morris, John Robinson and James Patrick Stuart.

Producer Joe Colleran said Murphy, who appeared in such films as "Clueless" and "8 Mile," did not want to appear glamourous in the film, portraying a broken woman as she unravels.

That the film was Murphy's final performance made the editing process difficult, he said.

"Just emotional to go through the editing process and hearing her voice and seeing her outtakes and laughing," Colleran said. "So it's been an emotional process just even trying to get that together."

Shot in Eugene, moviegoers will likely recognize some of the settings used in the film.

James Ivory, the unit production manager, said filming in Eugene enhanced the mood of "Something Wicked."

"Really tuned in with how Eugene and the surrounding area and southern Willamette Valley would texture the film and be a great pace to shoot it," Ivory said.

"Not only these local businesses but the McKenzie River and the Sahalie Falls are in it," Colleran said.

The movie opens exclusively at Regal Cinemas at Valley River Center.
