Boy, 2, run over and killed as father moves car into shade

GOLD BEACH, Ore. - A 2-year-old boy died Sunday after being hit by a car his father was moving out of the sun and into the shade.

"No citations were issued and none are expected in this tragic accident," Curry County Sheriff John Bishop said.

Medics rushed the boy from the Highway 101 home to Curry General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The sheriff said the 25-year-old father had checked around his car before moving it into the shade.

As he backed up, he felt a bump. He found his son under the vehicle.

"It is thought the son ran after dad thinking the dad was leaving and wanted to go," the sheriff said.

People on the scene provided first aid until medics and law enforcement arrived, the sheriff said.
