EUGENE, Ore. -- A 70-year-old man chased a burglar out of his house, around the block and into a neighbor's backyard Sunday afternoon, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.

The burglary suspect, 45-year-old Mark Turczynski, was booked at the Lane County Jail on first degree burglary and theft charges, as well as charges for possessing methamphetamine, psilocibin mushrooms and burglary tools.

Witnesses reported a burglary in progress on Maxwell Rd. at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, telling dispatchers a 70-year-old was chasing another man down the street, the sheriff's office said.

Eugene Police officers reported finding Turczynski in the backyard of a house on Howard Ave. after getting a tip from a witness.

The 70-year-old victim identified Turczynski as the man who he found in his home earlier Sunday afternoon.
