CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. - A manhunt for an armed and dangerous murder suspect on a motorcyle is taking place in a remote wooded area just north of the Oregon/California border.
State, local and federal officers actively searched for a Daniel Joseph Martinson near the Page Mountain Sno-Park in the southeast corner of Josephine County on Wednesday.
Police said the search was scaled back Wednesday afternoon with the suspect still at large. State police plan to maintain a patrol presence in the area.
Martinson, 44, is wanted for murder in the November 2013 slaying of a man in Cave Junction.
The area is sparsely populated but there are some homes, police said.
State police urge the public not contact Martinson, who should be considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, call 911.
Martinson was spotted several times Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and has eluded officers on a motorcycle on several remote paved and dirt roads, state police said.
The motorcycle is described as black with a red tank.
Martinson was last seen Wednesday morning wearing full camouflage clothing. He has shaved his head, police said.
OSP troopers from several Department divisions (Patrol, Criminal, Fish & Wildlife) are involved in the search with support from other agencies on the ground and in the air including California Highway Patrol, Del Norte County, California Sheriff's Office and the US Marshals Service.
