Boy, 16, found shot to death inside parked car in NE Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police say the 16-year-old boy found dead inside a parked car in Northeast Portland on Monday morning died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Police stumped after boy found dead in parked car of multiple gunshot wounds
Police identified the boy as Lazaro Lizandro Fuentes-Burgos of Southeast Portland.

The state medical examiner performed an autopsy Tuesday and determined Fuentes-Burgos was shot multiple times.

Police ruled the death a homicide on Monday. They are asking for the public’s help with the investigation.

Neighbors found Fuentes-Burgos inside a red 1994 Nissan Sentra near Northeast 59th Avenue and Killingsworth around 3 a.m. Monday, according to police. He was shot while he sat in the driver's seat of the car.

Law enforcement sources said the boy was shot at close range. The sources said investigators are trying to figure out why the boy was in Northeast Portland at such an early hour, especially since he lived in the Lents Neighborhood in Southeast Portland.

The car belongs to a family member and it was not unusual for the boy to use it, the sources said.

Neighbors told KATU News the car was parked in a back alley, which is off the main road. The alley only accesses a few homes. So someone would have to know the area to go down the road.

Neighbors told police they heard possible gunshots at about 1:40 a.m. They did not call police at that time. Police were notified about an hour later.

Fuentes-Burgos has no known gang or drug ties, police said. Investigators do not have a motive for the shooting or any suspect information.
