This letter was posted on the Willamette High School website on Thursday afternoon:
Dear Willamette Families,
I wanted to alert you to a situation involving an employee at our school. Tim Schley, who has worked as an athletic trainer at Willamette since 2009, was arrested today on a sexual abuse charge involving a WHS student.
Upon learning of the accusations against Mr. Schley on February 7, Bethel School District immediately put him on leave and restricted him from all Bethel School District property and from communicating with students or staff pending the outcome of a law enforcement investigation. The District has worked side by side with law enforcement and is moving ahead with termination rather than accepting Mr. Schley’s offer of a resignation.
The District and police investigation will be continuing and Willamette’s School Resource Officer, Steve Timm (541-689-0731 ext. 4097) is interested in speaking with any students or former students who may have knowledge of inappropriate contact with Mr. Schley.
While we cannot comment on the specifics of the allegations or the police investigation, we can assure you that nothing is more important to this school and District than the safety and well-being of each of our students. Willamette’s counselors and other staff are prepared to work with students in the days ahead, as needed.
It is also important that we all avoid rumors and speculation, which are hurtful to victims and violate the culture of our school and District.
If you have questions or concerns, share them with me or another Willamette administrator. As always, we encourage all of our students to report any concern to administrators, a school counselor, or other trusted adults in the school.
