EUGENE, Ore. - Someone carved an obscenity into the plaque honoring President Barack Obama's 2009 Nobel Peace Prize at a park honoring all of America's winners of the award.

The vandalism to the Nobel Peace Park in Alton Baker Park will cost $700 to repair.

Richard Zucker with the City of Eugene said the vandalism isn't just about the money.

"I know this is politically involved, but this is a place that's supposed to unite everyone," he said. "It's for meditation, reflection. It's no place for crass, political statements."

The plaque has been removed while crews work to replace it. Donations will pay for the new piece.

If you have any information about the vandalism, you are asked to call Eugene Police.
