The unique formation honored the 70th anniversary of D-Day, one of the most important days in U.S. history. The lead Mustang in the formation flew four sorties on June 6, 1944 over the beaches of Normandy. Nicknamed "their little friend" by Allied bomber crews in World War II, the P-51 Mustang emerged in 1942 as the fast, high-altitude fighter that could escort bombers deep into enemy territory and turn the tide of losses sustained during long-range missions.

The Sky View Observatory is located on the 73rd floor of Columbia Center. At nearly 1,000 feet it offers the tallest public viewing area west of the Mississippi. New natural history exhibit opens Friday at UO »Play Video
The Explore Oregon exhibit opens at the University of Oregon this week

The University of Oregon's Museum of Natural and Cultural History is set to open "Explore Oregon" and welcome the public to the new 2,755-square-foot exhibition hall devoted to the state's natural history and geology.

The grand-opening celebration kicks off with a public reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, May 30, and continues with an open-house celebration from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 31–June 1.

Both events are free and will take place at the museum, 1680 E. 15th Ave.
