Springfield (KMTR) - A 6-year-old from Springfield is working hard to make sure her classmates have school supplies. Rhylie Sevits is organizing a drive, for the second year in a row.
When she found out last year that some kids couldn't afford school supplies, she immediately donated her new supplies. But she wanted to do more to help. So her mom helped her organize a supply drive which brought in 13 grocery bags full of supplies for students at Mount Vernon Elementary School.
This year, Rhylie hopes to collect enough to help other students at other schools.
Rhylie says the reason she wants to help is simple: “It’s important that the kids who don't have the money, get the school supplies they need!”
Donations of school supplies can be brought to Norm's Auto Repair, on Main Street in Springfield or Karen and Friends Creations on Yolanda Avenue.
Her supply drive runs through October.
Last year, Rhylie earned the Everyday Hero Award from the local Kiwanis Club—and she’s not even in the first grade yet.
