Florence (KMTR) - A young Florence girl is hoping to change her community in one day.

Saturday, July 16th will be the first annual “Power of Florence” event, a one-day citywide day of service. Florence residents are encouraged to use the day to help their neighbors, their cit y or their favorite charity.

The organizer of the event is 11-year-old Kaylee Graham. She says volunteering is important, no matter how old you are. “I just love the feeling I get when I’m helping people,” Kaylee says, “because that's just a good feeling you can get nowhere else besides when you're volunteering.”

Kaylee went to the Florence City Council with her Power of Florence idea and won official approval for the event.

So far, more than 25 events are scheduled for Saturday, from cleaning up city parks and Highway 126 to several fundraisers to benefit the Florence Area Humane Society.

For those who want to get involved or visit some of the events planned, more information is available on the Power of Florence Web site.
