EUGENE, Ore. - Team USA scored a goal in the opening seconds of their World Cup match against Ghana Monday.
The crowd at Oakshire Brewing Public House erupted in cheers and chants of "U-S-A! U-S-A!"
Ghana later tied the score, but the US prevailed 2-1 after scoring on a header off a corner kick.
"More nervous than excited because we need to win this game," fan Marty Ochs said of watching the game, "and I believe we can get through the first round."
One of the local Lane United Football Club's players is from brazil.
To him, soccer isn't just a passion, it's a lifestyle - and the World Cup is all about showing your team patriotism, said John Galas, head coach at Lane United.
"This guy was running all over the bar after Brazil equalized, and when they got the winner this guy is running around with his scarf and kissing everyone," he said.
