SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Police say a bicyclist stabbed the driver of a pickup truck Saturday afternoon when the two got in a fight at 6th and D Street.
The driver had surgery for his wound and is reported to be in stable condition, Springfield Police Sgt. Mike McCarthy said.
A report from the department said the altercation started at around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses said a man on a bicycle was arguing with a man driving a pickup truck near the intersection of 4th an Main St.
The truck then chased or followed the bicycle to 6th and D St .where the dispute became physical, Sgt. McCarthy said. The driver was stabbed during the fight.
Officials said the bicyclist then left the scene and a witness called 911. The driver was taken to Sacred Heart at Riverbend and treated for the stab wound.
The bicyclist came to the Springfield Police Station a short time later, officials reported.
