Junction City (KMTR) - According to the Oregon State Police, a 20-year old Springfield man and his 9-month old son were critically injured Friday morning when the car they were in was struck by a box truck at the intersection of Highway 99 and Milliron Road south of Junction City.

According to OSP, a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Cody Oran Jackson, 20, was eastbound on Milliron Road traveling through the intersection with Highway 99 when it was struck in the passenger side by a northbound GMC box truck.  After impact, both vehicles came to a rest off the highway.

Police said Jackson and his 9-month old son, Eli were transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.  The child was later transported to Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland.

The box truck's driver and his passenger were transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend with minor injuries.

Authorities closed one northbound lane of Highway 99 for about 4 hours Friday while Oregon State Police investigated the scene of the accident.

An accident reconstruction team is trying to determine if one of the drivers failed to stop at the intersection.

assman55:I am so sorry for the pain you must be going through right now...rob29 should have been more tactful in sharing what he seems to feel he believes, I pray for speedy recovery of your family. I see nothing wrong with taking the kid for a ride...the person who cut your brother off is a coward and not deserving of forgiveness...I truly hope for a happy ending for you and yours. My prayers are for you , the little boy ,and your brother...hang in there...God is with you...Dave

Tragedy hits every day, some times it catches us of guard, sometimes we are our own dismay. Working with Traumatic situations for several years now- First we must seek recovery, health, and forgiveness. Dont dwell on blame, but focus on how each hour, each day- they are fighting to survive, heal, and move on.

I hope that all involved make a quick recovery. This was a terrible accident. It needs to be a reminder at this intersection to look both way's and not to beat the oncoming vehicle. you will not win
