Eugene (KMTR) – Despite several media reports, University of Oregon Head Football Coach Chip Kelly will not leave to take a coaching job in the NFL.

Sunday evening, reports had been swirling on the Internet and elsewhere that Kelly had been in discussions with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had decided to become their head coach. But by Monday morning, the word from Florida sources was that Chip Kelly will stay where he is.

A report in the Tampa Bay Times quotes the Buccaneer’s general Manager, Mark Dominik in an email saying the negotiations are off and Kelly will stay at Oregon.

“His heart is with college football and Oregon and he’s no longer being considered,” Mark Dominik said Monday, according to the newspaper.

Late Sunday evening, the Oregon Athletics Department said it had heard nothing about the possibility of Chip Kelly leaving.

As of Monday morning, there has been no further comment from the University of Oregon or Coach Chip Kelly.
