EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Just one day out from the start of the 2012 US Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, those looking to attend without shelling out some cash still have a chance.

The Eugene City Council and TrackTown 2012 committee members will give away eight pairs of TrackTown 2012 tickets - one pair for each of the eight days of competition - on Friday, June 22nd at the Fan Festival. The Festival opens on Thursday and runs from 4 to 9 p.m. in the TrackTown Plaza, behind Hayward Field in the UO Student Rec Center soccer fields.

Friday is the first full day of the Fan Festival and the only opportunity fans will have at the Festival to win free tickets to the TrackTown 2012 events.

The catch? You'll have to be at the Fan Festival to enter and you have to be present to win. Ticket hopefuls can enter their names at the Main Stage starting at 11:00 AM on Friday. At 12:30 PM, TrackTown 2012 co-chairs Vin Lananna and Greg Erwin will draw the names of the winners.

The Local Organizing Committee is behind the giveaway. The committee is made up of representatives from several local groups and governing bodies, including the University of Oregon, City of Eugene, City of Springfield and the Oregon Track Club. The group says while the trials bring international attention, it’s important for local residents to get a chance to experience the world-class event as well.

"It's just a huge opportunity for the community; it helps us to reach some of our goals that we have for the community, as I said: our youth finding healthy activities and build healthy lifestyles, to help further the city's sustainability goals,” says Jan Bohman, Community Relations Director for the City of Eugene. “So it's a way for us to accomplish anyway for the community and just to help make it fun for everybody."

If you can’t get to Hayward Field, the Fan Festival will have giant TV screens where you can watch the events. A live stream of the Hammer Throw event will be broadcast at Nike’s headquarters in Beaverton. The Fan Festival and surrounding Super Block is free to attend throughout the duration of the event.
Inside, you’ll have the chance to buy plenty of food and merchandise from booths. Fans will also be able to sample different products free of charge.
