PLEASANT HILL, Ore. (KMTR) -- Victory never tasted so good for a group of students at Pleasant Hill Middle School after bringing home the first place trophy from the First Lego League Challenge.
Gabe Adams, Gabe Placko, Ben Hogervorst, Dylan Hammond and Nathan Faber are middle school students from Pleasant Hill. They call themselves the Agents of Inspiration. These students built robots using Legos to make life easier for senior citizens; however, these creations were not life size.
The theme for the competition was Senior Solutions and there were fourteen different challenges upon which they were judged. Some of the challenges included picking up a medicine bottle, turning a stove on and off and bowling. Long hours were put into this project, but team members say it all paid off in the end.
”It made me feel happy to know that we worked on something that got recognized at a state level,” said Gabe Plako.
Plako’s partner Nathan agrees.
“The whole team was ecstatic knowing that we did a good job and got a trophy,” said Nathan Faber.
Rick Faber is the students' coach. He was proud to see the students succeed.
“It's great to see so many kids [who] are interested in something that challenges them with difficult and technical processes. It's also great to get recognized,” said Faber.
These kids went up against sixty different teams across the state. Gabe and Nathan say they want to build bigger, more advanced robots in the future.
The main goal of this competition was to see how much the students learned and not about what they won.
