EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- About a thousand gather for a long-time tradition in Eugene today: the 32nd Annual Truffle Shuffle, shuffling for something sweet and raising money for a good cause.

About a thousand people, young and old, showed up for the 32nd Annual Truffle Shuffle. The kids' Fun Run kicked off the event, followed by a two-mile and a 4-mile walk or run around Alton Baker Park. Each participant was given a chocolate truffle from Eugene's Euphoria Chocolate Company.

The Truffle Shuffle is a major fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lane County, a non-profit that provides volunteer mentors for local under-privileged youth.

"It's prevention, you know? There's a lot of kids out there, facing a lot of different influences in their life. It's really hard times right now,” says Eugene Henderson, Associate Director of Programs for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lane County. “Having a big brother, somebody [who] can help you make some better life decisions or just doing the right thing, is always great."

The goal was to raise $40,000 today. Henderson doesn't think they quite made that much, but says they aimed high. All the money will go toward new programs and activities for children.
