ROSEBURG, Ore. (KMTR) -- After collecting food for the past month, a
Roseburg middle school is ready for the annual 'Stuff the Bus' food drive and they're looking for help in reaching their goal.
Back in November, a group of about thirty Fremont Middle School students took a field trip to UCAN, the community's local food bank. They got a lesson about hunger in the community before kicking off their annual food drive.
The food drive ends Friday and they're a bit short of their goal.
Fremont Middle School donated 4,035 pounds of food last year and they're aiming to donate even more this year. Designated students will be outside the school from 7:00 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon Friday ready to receive more donations from the public.
The students are hoping to feed as many people as possible.
"A lot of people don't have food and they really need it to survive and to just keep alive," says 6th grader Mason Littlefield. "It's for a really good cause and they really need the help to get the food."
Eighth grader Taylor Stricklin is happy she'll be helping the many hungry children in the community. "I'm happy that I'm going to be helping my peers because you can't tell, here at school, but there's definitely people who are in worse situation than I am. So I'm happy to help," say Stricklin.
Fremont Middle School is located just off Harvard Avenue at 850 West Keady Court. The school has collected an estimated 2,500 pounds so far, so they're hoping to receive a lot of donations Friday in order to meet their 4,000 pound goal.
All the food from Fremont's bus will be delivered Friday afternoon to UCAN helping feed people all over Douglas County.
