EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Oregon State Police (OSP) arrested a man Friday night following a DUI crash in Eugene.

The call came in around 8:30 PM for a possible roll-over near the Northwest Expressway. When troopers arrived on scene, they noticed a car near the train tracks but there was no one was inside. Empty liquor bottles littered the floor of the car and the keys were on the seat.

Troopers say the two men inside reportedly took off in different directions following the crash.

“We had two staff members here from the Union Pacific Railroad who saw the subjects running and provided excellent descriptions,” said OSP Trooper Evan Sether. “We also had neighbors who were able to identify the driver as he was attempting to climb over the fence into their back yard and he subsequently ran down another road.”

The driver, James Gilbert, 23, was caught outside a nearby 7-11. He'll face charges for the crash, including DUI. Troopers say he also had warrants out for his arrest from a prior incident. His passenger, Steven Dynes, 26, was not cited.
