Eugene (KMTR) A Eugene police officer is out of the hospital and the man accused of attacking him is in jail.
The officer is one of two injured during a domestic dispute call Saturday night.
Police say the two officers responded to the call in the 4800 block of Spring Meadow Avenue about 7:30 p.m.
The suspect, Nicholas Christopher Jenkins, wasn't home. As the officers were leaving, he pulled into the driveway. Police say Jenkins then ran and Officer Ryan Molony followed him. Jenkins punched Officer Molony in the face, according to a police report, but Molony was able to defend himself and Jenkins was taken into custody.
Jenkins had lacerations to his head and was taken to the hospital, as was the police officer. Both were treated and released.
Jenkins is now in jail, facing several charges, including assault on a public safety officer, resisting arrest, harassment, and escape.
Jenkins’ mother, Maria Carol Jenkins, 50, was also arrested. She is accused of assaulting and struggling with another officer, Carissa Hartmann, during the incident. Maria Jenkins faces charges of assault on a public safety officer and resisting arrest.
On Sunday, Eugene Police Chief Pete Kerns released a statement saying, in part, “Yesterday's assault on two of our officers is intolerable. These two mature, hardworking and dedicated professionals who while responding to a call of domestic violence, were themselves brutally attacked by two individuals. I'm proud of our two officers for dutifully protecting the public and for courageously defending one another from assault while arresting the primary suspect. While selfless service is one of our core values, it is important that all our officers go home safely to their families at the end of their shift."
