SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KMTR) -- A Lane County Sheriff's Office patrol deputy accused of driving under the influence was arrested over the weekend. Springfield Police Department arrested Les Sieczkowski Friday night at Highway 126 and 52nd Street.

"My understanding is our officer stopped a vehicle as a result of a citizen," explained Captain Rich Harrison with Springfield Police. "It was a standard DUII investigation. We handled it like any other DUI case that we run across."

Sieczskowki has worked for LCSO for about twenty years and is now on leave while the Lane County Sheriff's Office investigates whether he violated any department policies.

Springfield Police told NewsSource 16 Sieczskowski was cooperative during the sobriety tests.

He will be in court on June 20th.

You keep refering to DUII as a mistake. It is not a mistake. If you take one drink and get into a car you are at risk of getting arrested. It is not a mistake, and he fully knew that what he was doing was not a mistake. The only way you could convince me he did not know what he was doing is if he was so drunk he was passing out, which I have seen. It was not a mistake. If you saw the dead bodies that I have seen from drunk drivers I believe you might feel differently.

Hmmm so even though he wasn't wearing his badge at the time he should lose his job? I am against DUII but everyone should be treated the same regardless of their job. Can you imagine the unemployment rate if everyone who got a DUII were let go. I would also like to point out it is a very stressful job maybe he a harder than usual day and had a drink....got behind the wheel...which was a mistake....and you think his career should be over for that reason? As a former peace officer or security guard or whatever you were....I am sure you went to a company party or two and saw several of your brothers leave under the influence maybe yourself too.....should they all have lost their jobs too? I am sure you are someone who would cite for a bowl of weed.

As a matter of fact I am suggesting that they fire him, because he should know better than anyone else that he should have never gotten into a car while under the influence of alcohol or any other drug. He is innocent until proven guilty, however why should he be suspended with pay pending the outcome. Why should the taxpayers be paying for no service. Police Officers are human, but when they put on the badge and take the oath, that puts a lot of power in there hands, and along with that power comes the responsibility not to betray the public's trust. As a former peace officer I find this totally unacceptable.

He is innocent until proven guilty. Are you suggesting they just fire him based on his arrest? Most anyone else caught driving under the influence....even truck drivers....are given diversion for their first DUII and it does not go on their record. Everyone makes mistakes....he should be treated no different just because he is an LCSO employee. There are so many other news worthy stories...yet this is being reported. I wonder who leaked this to the news? Maybe one of those County Commissioners who do not think public safety is as important as their own personal debts.

Here's the thing, the deputy is put on leave. Want to bet it is paid leave? So we are out his services, but still have to pay him? Is there something wrong here? What did he blow, or did he refuse? If he is a 20 year veteran, he can probably retire under PERS for as much or more than he is making now. The system is in a death spiral, if there are any pilots out there help us pull out of the spiral, and get back in control. The tail has wagged the dog long enough.

20 years and this person is driving drunk? A ciizen turned him in which makes it worse and we are going to investigate if he broke any policies. This should be a joke.
