PORTLAND -- The mother of Kyron Horman announced a lawsuit Friday in connection with the disappearance of the child two years ago.

In a Friday news conference, Desiree Young was accompanied by her lawyer Eldon Rosenthal on the steps of the Justice Center.

"My Kyron has always been my comfort and my joy," Young said at the start of the conference. "He has always been the one who could tell when I needed a hug."

"I haven't been able to see my son, hug him, kiss him of tuck him into bed" in nearly two years, she said. "I hope that I am wrong, but I fear that he is gone forever, I believe that Terri Horman knows where my son is."

She said she believes the criminal justice will do its part, but until then she is filing a lawsuit against Terri Horman.

She asked that the court to compel Horman to tell her where Kyron is. She asked for money damages in the amount of $10 million, which will be dedicated to parents of other missing children.

Young filed two claims: One for custodial infererence and the other for intentional infliction of severe emotional distress.

"I want Terri to face justice," she said.

The lawsuit asserts that Horman kidnapped her stepson, Rosenthal said.

"I believe we will be able to prove what happened in this case," he added.

Kyron disappeared two years ago from Skyline grade school, leading to the largest search effort ever conducted in Oregon.

Kyron's stepmother, Terri Horman, was the last person to see Kyron alive, investigators said.

Horman has retained a lawyer for nearly two years and has refused to talk with detectives since then.

Nobody has been named a person of interest or a suspect in the case, but Young and Kyron’s father, Kaine Horman, have both said they believe Terri Horman had something to do with his disappearance.

Friday morning Multnomah County Chief Deputy Jason Gates said the case was still open, and tips were still coming in. He said detectives have not forgotten Kyron.

“We are in this profession because we care about our community. We care about people,” he said. “If there's a case I'd love to solve; it'd be this one."

Kaine Horman continues to spread the word about his son’s disappearance, nearly two years later. He planned to hold a series of running events, called “Run for Kyron," Saturday at Tigard's Cook Park.

At last. Many want to know: Why Kaine's attorney did not suggest this to him. His comments sounded like it was rather a surprise to him. He needs to get a good attorney outside Oregon. New York lawyers licensed in OR who know the ropes there well enough to hang culprits. Why Kaine's attorney has not assisted in obtaining Terri's Tax Filings which would show the transactions regarding source and distribution of the funds she used for her attorneys. Kaine is still married to Terri and he has rights to access those filings. Why has the sourcing of those funds not been announced? Others are just reading this news and we will discuss, gathering more questions/concerns to be presented now resulting. Interest remains strong in this case because of Kyron; because there are unresolved cases of missing children throughout the USA; because of abused children; because of abuse of adopted children in reference to the Russian 7 y/o boy airmailed back to Russia alone, without explanation to him, by the adoptive single unemployed female assisted by her mother. We still feel the unAmerican sting of the leader of the Secy of St team who answered a reporter that No, they had not spoken to the female who airmailed her adopted boy back to Russia alone, that they did not intend to speak to her and that there was no reason to speak to her, although the team was traveling to Russia to convince them to melt their freeze on Americans adopting their orphans. Following Torry Hansen's action in Shelbyville, TN, she and her mom, pop, one sister, returned to homeground Hayfork and Redding, CA, May-June 2010, close to Oregon border. Did she adopt another 7 y/o boy? Americans are very interested in the handling and silence of this responsibility to locate Kyron, and others in Oregon. Portland is known as the Sex Trade Capital of the USA, which reflects questionably on the interest of LE and political powers in preventing that "common knowledge." L8ter.

@007getagrip - What I know about our law system is about enough to fill a thimble... and might be less! However, I believe that the burden of proof needed for a suit like this is less then the burden of proof needed for a criminal suit. Also, I don't really consider this case to be frivolous (of little or no weight, worth, or importance; not worthy of serious notice), as many involved in the case (especially Desiree Young herself!) feel that Terri Horman knows more then she's told.

I know this woman is in pain. But good luck with this ridiculous lawsuit- they believe they can prove Terri Horman kidnapped Kyron? Then why haven't the police press charges? Another frivolous lawsuit. Still I know this woman is in pain-and I wish this nightmare were over.
