Springfield (KMTR) – Springfield residents will be paying more for Sanipac’s garbage-hauling and recycling services. The Springfield City Council gave the sanitation company the go-ahead to raise rates 7% for residents and 10% for businesses. Residential customers will pay about a dollar more for service every month beginning in March.
Sanipac said the higher rates became necessary as the economic slowdown caused fewer people to their bills. Costs for the company, such as employee’s wages, diesel fuel and road taxes, are going up at the same time.
The company says it offers a less-expensive option for its customers who don’t generate a lot of trash. They can opt for garbage pickup every other week.
