COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Two children in Cottage Grove were the apparent target of what appeared to be an abduction attempt Monday afternoon.

Cottage Grove Police arrested Christopher Shawn Williams, 40, after an incident in the front yard of a home on Quincy Avenue.

The two children, ages 4 and 6, were in the yard with their parents when the parents say a man approached the children with an unfurled blanket in his outstretched arms.

The father shouted at the man who then ran away.

Cottage Grove police, Lane County Sheriff’s deputies with a police dog and Oregon State Police troopers quickly saturated the area. Within about 45 minutes officers located Williams and determined that he was the man who approached the children.

Williams was taken to the Cottage Grove Municipal jail and is being held on criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct charges.
