EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- After more than seven years of vacancy, the large building that used to be Good Guys on Green Acres Road is now Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts. The store opened Friday, but will hold their official grand opening on the 15th of November.
The new location gives the store a lot more space. It's about 8,000 square feet larger than the River Road location, which is now closed. People flooded the craft store Friday, excited about the bigger space, the new location, and that the building is finally filled.
"Oh, I think it's great because it was an empty building for so long and I think we need to put more people, or jobs, in these empty buildings because it's a waste," said Marilyn Williams, who spent the morning shopping at Jo-Ann's. "It's lovely to have this here because I am a crafter, and so I use Jo-Ann's quite a bit."
Nine-year-old Maya Reddy is also excited about the Jo-Ann's move. "I've always wanted to be able to go look at the fabrics, but we've always had to drive a long way into Springfield, and now it's here," Reddy said.
Williams and Reddy are not alone. The parking lot was packed and the lines were long, as eager customers filed in and out all Friday morning.
Though the Eugene location has changed, the Springfield Jo-Ann's is staying put at its current location in the Mohawk Marketplace.
