LOWELL, Ore. (KMTR) - Dozens of people showed up Saturday to participate in watch in Dexter Reservoir's annual drag boat races.
People from all over the Pacific Northwest showed up competing in different classes starting at 9 AM. Capsule boats took off around noon.
Organizers told NewsSource 16 that the event is getting bigger every year and people are recognizing that Lane County's lakes are one of a kind.
"It's the topography, the green, the evergreens we have of course, and the beautiful clear water that is here," said Columbia Drag Boat Association board member Al Driver. "You put your finger up to the air and test the air, the wind, you guess at the temperature and then accordingly, set your engine tune to the climatic conditions."
The races are open to the public again on Sunday. Boats will be competing in their final competitions.
Admission is $12. Kids 12 and under are free.
