Roseburg, Or (KMTR) Detectives say it's a first in Douglas County, an old school scam, using new technology. They've arrested the Roseburg man, after he allegedly traded fake mining property, for a new set of wheels.

Deputies say 42 year old Marcus Rojas contacted a man who was selling his motorcycle on Craigslist, and asking for a mining claim in return. Rojas produced a few photos of the alleged claim, and false paperwork, exchanging them for the motorcycle, Deputies say.

When the buyer went to the B.L.M. to confirm his new online purchase, he found the papers he received were worthless. Detectives say this is an new take on an age old scam.

"Doing business on the internet is a chance that some people take," says Detective Brad McVay, "it's an easy opportunity for people that are looking for easy targets to maybe advertise something that they don't have."

Rojas was arrested January 31st, and lodged the Douglas County Jail facing felony theft by deception charges.
