Coos County (KMTR)
The Coos County Sheriff’s office is investigating the death of 70 year old Terry Vance Garner that occurred at his residence near Riverton on September 26th. Mr. Garner was seen around 7:30am that morning when he went to feed animals on his farm. Included in the animals he was to feed were several very large hogs (probably 700 pounds or more in weight).
He was not observed for several hours. When a family member went to look for him and arrived at the hog enclosure, he found the dentures of Mr. Garner on the ground. Further searching revealed that Mr. Garners body was in several places, with the majority of the body having been consumed by the pigs.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating how Mr. Garner ended up in a position where the hogs were able to consume him. There are various scenarios being investigated, including that he had some sort of health issue which put him in a position where the hogs could consume him.
Due to the unusual circumstances, Sheriff’s are investigating to determine if foul play may have resulted in the death of Mr. Garner.
What was left of the body was examined for a cause of death. The pathologist was unable to confirm the cause or manner of death. The remains will be examined further by a forensic anthropologist at the University of Oregon.
