Body found in Douglas County river

ROSEBURG, Ore. (KMTR) - Roseburg police are investigating a body found in the South Umpqua River in Douglas County.

At this time no details regarding the identity of the individual, including age and gender, are available for release.

The body was discovered by boaters in the vicinity of Elk Island near the confluence of Deer Creek and the South Umpqua River.

Members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue and Marine Patrol units, assisted by a Winston Police Department member of the interagency Dive Team, responded and were involved in the recovery in the body.

This matter is under investigation by the Roseburg Police Department and the Oregon State Medical Examiner's office.
