SANDY, Ore. -- A Porsche driver was pulled over twice in the same day, racing at speeds up to 117 mph on Highway 26, in a road rally through Oregon, according to troopers.
Three other drivers were pulled over and cited between Prairie City and John Day, caught going 112, 102, and 92 mph., Hastings said. There were also complaints about rally drivers on I-84 near Cascade Locks.
Investigators believe the speeding drivers were all participating in a road rally that started in Las Vegas and is supposed to end on June 29 in an unknown destination.
The Bullrun Rally website describes the event as a test to find the fastest route to the next checkpoint. The rally is invitation-only and features high-end luxury vehicles.
Wahe Yeterian, 55, of New York, was caught driving his Porsche 90 miles an hour in a 55 mph zone near Sandy Tuesday, Hastings said. The trooper who ticketed him did a background check that also revealed he had been cited for going 117 mph east of John Day earlier that same day.
The three drivers cited for going faster than 100 mph face a fine of $1,150 and, if convicted, a mandatory suspension of their driving privileges in Oregon for 30 to 90 days.
