OAKLAND, Ore. (KMTR) - Friends of a 73-year-old Oakland, Oregon man are offering a reward of up to $1,000 to help Oregon State Police (OSP) find the driver and vehicle involved in a February 15th hit-and-run.
The injury traffic crash occurred along Highway 101 about one mile north of Winchester Bay. The injured motorcyclist received serious, non-life threatening injuries in the crash and has been released from a hospital following medical treatment.
On February 15, 2013 at approximately 4:00 PM, Gary B. Young, age 73 from Oakland, Oregon, was operating a 1984 three-wheel Honda motorcycle northbound on Highway 101 near Surfwood Campground followed by a riding partner. An unknown make silver sport utility vehicle (SUV) passed the riding partner and then, as the SUV attempted to pass Young's motorcycle, the SUV collided into the left rear area of the motorcycle, forcing it off the road.
The motorcycle came to rest off the north side of Highway 101 near the campground entrance. Young, who was wearing a protective helmet, was injured and transported to a Roseburg-area hospital for treatment.
The suspect vehicle continued northbound without stopping at the scene.
Friends of the injured man are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact OSP Senior Trooper Freddie Dunlap at 541 888-2677.
