In case you've ever wondered what the difference is between curtains and drapes, here it is: drapes are heavier, have linings, and hang from hooks; curtain fabrics are lighter in weight, generally unlined, and have a loop at the top for the curtain rod. Most curtains are machine washable, although you should check the label to be sure. Always have draperies dry cleaned unless the label indicates that they're washable. Between cleanings, you can dust them with your vacuum cleaner's upholstery attachment. Pull the fabric taut and vacuum gently, working from top to bottom. Another trick for removing dust from drapes is to put them in your dryer on the 'no heat' setting. Dust will accumulate in the lint trap.
