As the name suggests, indoor/outdoor lighting can be used both inside, or out, in an area such as a porch or gazebo. To withstand the elements, this type of lighting must be u-l listed for wet locations. A sticker somewhere on the fixture should tell you so. Indoor/outdoor lighting is available in a wide variety of styles, in both hanging and wall-mounted versions. It's useful anywhere that moisture might be a problem for a regular fixture. It works great as a patio light, or hung on a wall to illuminate a dark sidewalk. If the fixture will be placed at eye level, choose one with panels or globes, to diffuse the light and avoid glare. When installing outdoor lighting, the circuit should be protected by both a ground-fault interrupter, and a fuse or circuit breaker. For convenience, have the fixture wired so it can be controlled by a switch inside the house. To find out more about indoor/outdoor lighting, and how it can helpful at your home, consult a local electrician.
