Halsey (KMTR) - Hoping to be a "local solution" some local athletes are putting together a game plan to help veterans and military families in need.

The athletic department at Central Linn High School is sponsoring "Operation Heroes."  It’s the brain child of girls’ volleyball coach Joanna Gange.  Gange is a veteran and the assistant coach and some of the players have family members serving overseas or getting ready to deploy.  This summer they want to give back to the people fighting for our freedoms.  Student athletes are planning a two-day work party where they'll do household chores, yard work and small repairs, anything to take the burden off veterans or soldier's families left behind.

“Many of the ones that are going over are weekend warriors and having to leave jobs, great jobs and incomes, and their families are stuck here struggling and we want to make that difference for them.” Gange said.

If you could use the help or know a military family in need, or if you want to join the work party email Joanna Gange at cobracoachgange@hotmail.com.  Messages can also be left for Gange at Central Linn High School (541) 369-2811.

I am so sorry for my poor choice in words. I never intended to offend anyone. I only wanted to make a difference in the lives of all our hero's home and away. I have nothing but the upmost respect for ALL Military men and women along with their families. This piece was also meant for our local law enforcement and fire fighting families. To ALL who put their lives in harms way for the benefit of others. I salute each and everyone of you. Also, this event is being sponsored by several of the athletic teams at Central Linn High School, not the school it self. To all of you family members, thank you for your sacrifice and know that we are thinking of you and are here to help in anyway that we can. Sincerly, Joanna Gange Head Volleyball Coach Central Linn High School
