Springfield (KMTR) – Most everyone sends greeting cards from time to time, but a group of women in Springfield makes and sends blank cards.
The cards are being sent to members of the National Guard who are deployed overseas so that they can fill them in and send them to their loved ones.
On the third Friday of each month, the ladies get together for a night of scrapbooking. At first, they did it to share ideas, and inspire each other.
After a little brainstorming, they came up with "Cards for the Guard."
They make cards for all occasions; from blank cards to "thinking of you" and holiday cards.
Group member Debbie Knilans says it's a gift for the guardsmen, and their loved ones.
“They were thrilled because, they said, that anything that shows that the people back home appreciate them is really important to the guys,” says Knilans. “And they get homesick, and so, hopefully something like this will make them feel a little closer to home.”
Now, instead of doing this on the third Friday of each month, they're making them while at home and they've worked on more than a hundred cards.
