From mountain biking to fly fishing, to white water rafting the Land of Umpqua is an adventurer’s dream. The adventure begins in the city of Roseburg, the portal city for entering the Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway, the northern gateway to Crater Lake National Park.
Along the Scenic Byway is the North Umpqua Trail that parallels the river in the Cascade mountain range. Known for its hiking and mountain biking, the North Umpqua Trail offers 12 primary trailheads with access to a wide variety of trail segments ranging from 3.5 miles to 15.7 miles in length. Stop by Diamond Lake and enjoy further outdoor recreation opportunities all year around.
To the west travel the state River Scenic Byway to the Pacific Ocean. Explore the Oregon Dunes National recreation area, go crabbing or fishing or visit the Umpqua lighthouse.
In between the mountain landscapes and the Pacific Ocean are the many valleys of the Umpqua that are now known for their wines in a lush growing climate. There are 18 wineries and tasting rooms to explore in the Umpqua Valley. Many of the wines are award winning and the story of the wine makers relocating here is fascinating. Stop by any of the tasting rooms and you will often have the opportunity to visit with the wine maker himself!
