Komen Eugene Race for the Cure

Dr. Chicola is the only radiologist in the southern Willamette Valley who dedicates 100 percent of her time to reading breast images. In this life-saving role, she has led the improvement of clinical services to benefit every woman in our community.

When you call your buddy this month, remind them to do their monthly breast self-exam and ask them to join you in signing up for the Komen Eugene Race for the Cure at Autzen stadium on 10.10.10.

By registering for the Race, you’re supporting an organization that has funded more than 2,600 mammograms for uninsured and low-income women in Lane County over the last five years. Komen Oregon also provides diagnostic tests for uninsured women, educational programs, survivor support, access to treatment for those living in rural areas and much more.

You have until the end of the month to start your own team, or join my team, “Make time for the girls,” at www.oregonimaging.com/race. After that, you can still register as an individual at http://komenoregon.org. You can even choose to sleep in for the cure!
The “Make time for the girls” team has raised $2,163, thus far. But we still have a ways to go if we want to reach our $5,000 goal. You can help, just by joining the team and asking friends, family and co-workers to support you in the Race.

To keep things interesting, we’ve created some healthy competition at Oregon Imaging Centers. The “Make time for the girls” team is facing off against the “Oregon Imaging Bike Commuter” team, which has also set a $5,000 fundraising goal. May the best team win!

If you want to support the competition, join Oregon Imaging Centers for Breakfast at the Bike Bridges at the Dave and Lynn Frohnmayer Bridge (formerly Autzen Footbridge) on Friday, Sept. 24, from 7–9:30 a.m. Oregon Imaging Centers will make a $1 donation for every biking/walking commuter who passes by and $2 for everyone wearing a pink “Make Time for the Girls” T-shirt (for sale at the bridge).

Whichever team you support, know that it all goes to a great cause that’s working to save lives right here in our community.

Do your part. Know what's normal for you. Do your monthly breast self-checks. And if you're over 40, schedule your annual mammogram by calling 541-334-7555.

Together, we can end breast cancer forever!
