Brent Prasnikar

You will find Brent Prasnikar forecasting the weather weekdays on KMTR News Source Today from 5:30 to  7:00 a.m.  He joined KMTR in 2005 after working five years at KEZI in Eugene and briefly at KOIN in Portland.  A Pacific Northwest native, Brent was born and raised in the Portland area.

His bulldog, Helmsley, is recognized around town as "the weather dog."  You can see Helmsley, looking dapper on NewsSource 16, sporting attire suitable for the day's weather. He seems to love the camera, or maybe just the treats we toss him.

Brent graduated from Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon's School of Journalism with a minor in geography. He also earned a certificate of Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University (MSU aptly, home of the Bulldogs).

His accolades include “Best Weathercast” honors in 2007 and 2008 from the Oregon Associated Press Broadcast Awards. The American Meteorological Society awarded Brent its AMS Seal of Approval. The seal is a mark of distinction recognizing broadcast meteorologists for their technical competence and communication skills.

Outside of work, Brent is active in the community hosting charity events and speaking in schools and senior centers. He enjoys martial arts (Jiu Jitsu and Jeet Kune Do), yoga, gardening and sports of all kinds. Some of his more adventurous endeavors include hang gliding, bungee jumping, sky diving, river rafting, ice climbing and swimming in a glacial lake. Brent has also become quite a handy man by taking on many home improvement projects.
