Susan G. Komen is the largest non-governmental funder of breast cancer research in the world. The Race for the Cure raises funds to continue Komen’s mission:
Screening for low-income women: The collaboration between Komen Oregon and the state of Oregon provides about 4,000 free mammograms a year in Oregon alone, the largest screening resource for uninsured and underinsured women in the state.
Removal of barriers: Komen Oregon provides support for women and their families – especially in rural areas – for transportation, food and lodging so that patients have access to treatment. We fund patient navigators to assist women and their families from the moment they are diagnosed.
75% of Komen Oregon dollars stay local to support low-income women with life-saving resources. For the past 21 years, Komen Oregon has directed more than $30 million toward education, breast cancer screening, treatment access and survivor support.
25% of donated funds are pooled with other Komen Affiliates to fund global breast cancer research. To date, Komen has invested more than $800 million in cutting-edge breast cancer research world-wide. Every major advance in global breast cancer research in the last quarter century has been touched by Komen dollars. Grants totaling more than $11.6 million have been given to local researchers at OHSU Knight Cancer Institute and Providence Cancer Center.

Can returning team captains email past team members to recruit them for this year’s race?
