Willamalane Park and Recreation District is set to welcome more than 1,750 youth athletes from around the world at the Oregon14 Welcome Party on Monday, July 21, at Island Park in Springfield.

The free public event, set from 7 to 9 p.m., is a kickoff party for the IAAF World Junior Championships Oregon at Hayward Field.

About a four hour drive from Seattle, Pemberton Music Festival is nestled under tree-covered mountains in Pemberton, British Columbia. Assa Traore’s story of dedication, perseverance, and love made her a clear candidate for the 4th annual Duck My Ride event, where a local auto body shop gives away a restored ride to a deserving family.

Traore moved to the U.S. from Bali, Africa to find a better life for herself and her four children.

“I received so much support when I came to the U.S.,” said Traore, wiping away tears. “Oregonians have helped me so much."

The second annual Eugene Running Of The Bulls took place in Alton Baker Park this morning. With their skates laced and horns strapped to their helmets, the Emerald City Roller Girls were ready to chase runners through the 4-mile course.

Fees from the fun run help the Emerald City Roller Girls pay for track time, travel expenses, and uniforms.

The organizer of the Salem protest against illegal immigration distanced her group from one woman's statements.

"We have compassion for the people coming here. But it's important they know they can't stay," said Cynthia Kendoll, president of Oregonians for Immigration Reform, the group that helped organize Salem's event. "They need to return to their home countries."

Foster care children are getting some support from wine lovers this weekend at the Taste Of Home at Sweet Cheeks Winery.

The non-profit group A Family For Every Child has helped find homes for over 300 of Lane County’s foster care children.

Rebecca Rhodes, a spokeswoman for the group, said there are currently 1,000 children from Lane County still waiting to find a home. Money raised at the Taste Of Home event goes to helping unite those kids with a family.
