Forty years ago Friday night, Steve Prefontaine attended a party near Hendricks Park.

Shortly after midnight in the early morning hours of May 30, 1975, Prefontaine lost control of his car and crashed.

He didn't survive. Pre was 24 years old.

Eugene Police now have a sketch of the man they say attempted to kidnap a woman in front of a local hotel Saturday. The man fled the parking lot in a vehicle, described as a “sporty” silver colored car, similar to a Hyundai.
