It’s been nearly 20 years since Ronda Hatefi lost her older brother to his gambling addiction.
Shortly after her brother Bobby’s death, she started the organization Oregonians For Gambling Awareness, and petitioned Oregon's governor to proclaim September 29 as Problem Gamblers Awareness Day.
The state has honored the day for the last 19 years, and Hatefi said she’s found a way to celebrate her brother's life.
Olivia Powell has been dominating the prep-level competition in the TrackTown U.S.A. during her time at Creswell High School. This season she’s looking to make her mark at the 5A level.
Powell has won six state championships – three in cross country and three in track and field. She won her first one when she was just 14 years old and a freshman at Creswell High.
"Going into it I knew that I would be up there. I had been working hard and putting in the miles and stuff and my goal was to win but after it happened I had a hard time believing it,” said Powell.

A driver fled after striking and killing a pedestrian with a car Saturday night near Dorena Lake east of Cottage Grove, and now State Police is asking for your help in finding the suspect.
Troopers responded to reports that a man, later identified as Reuben Orr, 39, of Eugene, was found deceased
on Shoreview Drive at around 10:40 p.m. Saturday.
Medical examiners determined Orr was lying in the road near the centerline, and was not standing when he was fatally struck by a vehicle. The driver fled the area, Sgt. Alan Gilbert said.

Firefighters were forced to dig through their "pet emergency pocket guides" on Friday when they rescued a family of hamsters from a burning mobile home in Lacey.
As students start heading back to the University of Oregon campus, law enforcement officers are increasing their alcohol patrols both on the roads and in the neighborhoods around campus.
The patrols are aimed at making sure students stay responsible while having fun this school year, the University of Oregon and Eugene Police Departments said.
UOPD spokesperson Kelly McIver said the buddy system is the best way to stay safe in party situations.
“Don't try to guess and make that judgment on their own or leave someone alone if they're not capable of enough to speak well or walk well,” said Mciver.
