A Vietnam War veteran in Cottage Grove is asking her community for help in paying for service dog training courses for her new companion.

Marianne Ballance was diagnosed with severe arthritis after she served as a corpsman in the Vietnam War. She also suffers from chronic depression and panic attacks.

Thanks to a Kaiser-Permanente study, the veteran was granted a service dog to help her with her ailments.

An investigation team is looking into an officer-involved shooting in Cottage Grove Saturday night, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.

Agencies form across the county closed down the area around Highway 99 and Quincy Avenue at around 8:20 p.m. after getting reports that shots were fired near the train tracks near Quincy Ave and South 6th Street.

Fire officials have ordered evacuations for residents on Stepien Road as a fast-moving fire burned near Henry Hagg Lake Friday evening.

Man shot at Gateway Village Apartments parking lot in Springfield

A 27-year-old Springfield man was shot multiple times in the Gateway Village Apartments early Sunday morning, the Springfield Police Department said.

Officers were called out to the hospital at around 1:50 a.m. Sunday after the man arrived at Riverbend for treatment. They talked with the man and learned the shooting took place in an apartment building parking lot at 3255 Gateway Boulevard.
